In this year's Presidential campaign both parties have talked about getting us off of foreign oil and some have talked about ending our oil "addiction. However, if we address only our energy needs with renewable energy we'll never get off oil. Even if we develope other energy source that still will not end civilaztion's need for oil. Because there are over 130 product either made by or contain oil. These are products that we use and consume everyday of our lives such as: tires, toothpaste, microchips, candles, crayons, canned food (i.e canned fruit and vegitables). Even the upholstery on our furnitures are made of oil. An example of this is a story I saw on Tru TV (formerly Court TV) about an older teen was facing charges of arson and murder because a fire on a couch in his house killed his grandmother. The Fire Marshall didn't believe that the fire was accidental because of how hot and fast the fire was and want to prosecute him (the grandson). So when the prosecutor heard about the grandson's defense ( and this is why I deeply respect him) he decided to test the defense for himself. He (the prosecutor) went and purchased an identical couch, which was made of microfiber, and stuck a lit cigarette on it. The result was astonishing to the prosecutor because the couch went up like a Roman candle. After this test the prosecutor knowing the truth decided to drop the charges. Stories like this are becoming more and more common due to the fact that more and more of our normal everyday products are either being made from oil or contain oil in them. Because of the amount of product made by or containing oil if we are to truly get of all oil we need to find to replace all of the products. So in conclusion a new enrgy source will not take us off our "addiction to oil" until we address the other products made by or containing oil.
